I so enjoy reading your stories, looking at your anime pics,
and vicariously enjoying your deviled eggs.
  -- Nilufar Tofighi

I love anime, cosplay, K-pop, and glam makeup. Grams asked if I'd like to do new page, in addition to my home page, sharing photos of me and some of my favorite memories over these past six years. Would I? Of course I would. So I'm posting a set of pictures every month in 2019. I hope you enjoy them. You can email me about this page at [email protected] with MYA as the first word of the Subject line. I would love to hear from you.

I'm ending this year of posts by starting a new year of photos ... from 2017. January was a time of perfecting some looks and expermenting with others. 'Cuz if I don't get it right at home first, howzit gonna work at a convention, right? See ya in 2020.

        Colorful HeartHappy Holidays, everyone!Colorful Heart

Mya starts 2017 by perfecting her Grell Sutcliff from Black Butler Mya also enhances her Eren Jaeger from Attack on Titan in early 2017, showing that he's a sloppy eater Mya in early 2017, playing around with a Cecil Aijima look from Princes of Song
Grell Sutcliff from Black Butler once again makes an appearance. I think I've really got this character down. Everyone's favorite red Grim Reaper, and absolutely my #1! :D Eren Jaeger from Attack on Titan also gets another spate of creativity. I added some blood smears because he is never, ever careful ... and it shows. Tsk tsk. Cecil Aijima (Aijima Seshiru) is from Uta no Prince-sama (Princes of Song) multimedia. Never an official cosplay; but with this rad green jacket, he came to life for a day!

I think these will be the last of the 2016 pix I want to post. They're all Christmas-related photos, which seems appropriate (considering how close to December it got before I was able to post them here).
Mya at Con Alt Delete 2016, cosplaying as a Christmasy Eren Yeager from Attack on Titan Mya at Con Alt Delete 2016, cosplaying as Soul Evans from Soul Eater Mya in 2016, testing a Christmasy (unmasked, unbloody) Kaneki Ken from Tokyo Ghoul
At Con Alt Delete, I decided to cosplay teenager Eren Yeager (Eren Yega, aka Eren Jaeger &, later, Shingeki no Kyojin), the protagonist of Attack on Titan ... but with a Christmas twist for the convention! Also at Con Alt Delete as Soul Evans (Soru Evansu) from Soul Eater, I liked the Christmas-themed set-up behind me, so I just had to take a selfie with it! I also wanted to see if my contacts were visible. And I once again bring you Kaneki Ken from Tokyo Ghoul ... with a Christmas twist of his own, honoring the season by being unmasked & unbloody. I took this picture on Christmas Day itself!

This month once again demonstrates the creative processes that lead me to cosplaying so many different characters at cons.
Mya in 2016, testing makeup for Jared Leto's version of Joker from The Suicide Squad Mya in 2016, showing off Grell Sutcliff from Black Butler in sporty, smart glasses Mya in 2016, testing her complete look for Saeran Choi from Mystic Messenger
When I tried out Jared Leto's version of Joker from 2016's The Suicide Squad, I was very proud of the outcome. In fact, I was amazed at how much I DIDN'T look like myself! (So was Grams.) Fun fact: I used white face paint for my skin &, surprise, green eyeshadow for my hair. This is Grell again, sporting those smart glasses. I'd quickly thrown her on 'cuz I needed to create content for my Cosplay Instagram. At the time, I still cosplayed Grell a lot, so you'd see my various Grells pop up all over my Instagram page. Yo, when ya do something good, ya stick with it! This is the first time I tested out Saeran Choi (aka Unknown & Ray) from the Mystic Messenger interactive game. It was huge at the time. I enjoyed playing it & fell in love with this hacker bad boy. Then I noticed I had pieces I needed for his cosplay & ta-DA ... he came to life & everyone loved it!

Hi Mya!
Wow. Your makeup artistry is amazing. I especially like your joker recreation. I think the cool thing about cosplay is that it's basically Halloween 365 days a year! I think Grell is cool because it's a cross between glam makeup, anime, and cosplay!
Thanks again for creating a break from the ordinary!
Nilu
  Mya responds to Nilufar:
Hi, Nilu!
You're right. I am always telling people that Halloween is really every day of the year for me. Thank you for enjoying my work!
Mya
  Lucki responds to Nilufar:
Hi, Nilu,
Ya know, Mya comes by that "favorite holiday is Halloween" creativity honestly. From her Dad.

Lucki,
I'm enjoying going through this blog. Mya has so many characters. That's a lot of work, making all those outfits and makeups. She's even good at scary; and she's right about the first one here. I wouldn't know it was her if I didn't know it was her.
Nancy
  Lucki responds to Nancy:
Thank you, Nancy. Yes, Mya certainly has a broad and eclectic repertoire of characters. I'm glad she has something she enjoys so much and can share wtih lots of people at the anime conventions. It takes me back, sort of, to the days when her dad was young and he and I would sometimes do hall costumes at SF lit cons (literary, rather than media, conventions).

This month's photos center around my creative process for developing my cosplay of Soul Evans (Soru Evansu) from the anime Soul Eater. Born to a family of renowned musicians, Soul is a gifted but reluctant pianist ... and the last demon scythe ever created.
Mya in 2016, testing teeth & headband for Soul Evans from Soul Eater Mya in 2016, testing the wig she styled for Soul Evans from Soul Eater Mya in 2016, testing wig, headband, contacts, teeth, and jacket for Soul Evans from Soul Eater
I snapped this quick photo to show off the fake teeth & headband I'd made for my Soul cosplay. This was before I had Soul's actual wig; so I just used the wig I use for Kaneki Ken (see immediately below). This is when I first got my wig for Soul. I styled it & right away wanted to take photos. The cosplay was only semi-complete at this point, but I liked how everything was looking; it was a good foundation! Final product: I had the wig, teeth, headband, and his jacket ... & some red contacts I use for both Soul & Kaneki. Looking back, I must say that my eyeliner was atrocious! I'm so glad I've improved makeup-wise.

I culminated 2015 with Con+Alt+Delete in December at the Hyatt Regency O'Hare in Rosemont. This was a "small" con with maybe 5,000 attendees tops.
Mya a Con Alt Deleter 2015, cosplaying as Kaneki Ken from Tokyo Ghoul, with Chicagoan & voice actor Chuck Huber, who performs the English voice of Dr. Franken Stein from Soul Eater. Mya a Con Alt Deleter 2015, cosplaying as Kaneki Ken from Tokyo Ghoul Mya in 2015, testing bloody-mouth makeup for Kaneki Ken from Tokyo Ghoul
Voice actor Chuck Huber performs the voice in English of Dr. Franken Stein (Furanken Shutain) from the anime Soul Eater. A Chicagoan, he was one of the Con+Alt+Delete guests. This was the first time I met him, so I rushed to buy a mini-poster of Stein just to have Huber sign it. He was very nice about it. This was a full cosplay as Kaneki Ken of Tokyo Ghoul. The red tentacles erupting from my back are a kagune, a weapon only ghouls have, made of their own blood. Dad & my stepmom helped make the garb. Grams designed the kagune & how to have it come out of my back, & we built it with Dad's help. After Con+Alt+Delete, & as a segue into 2016, I decided to play around with some theatrical blood I had. Since Kaneki Ken is a ghoul, & ghouls' one & only source of food is humans, I wanted to paint the blood around my mouth to make it look like I had just had some dinner...or at least a tasty snack. Yum yum!

I continued to experiment with my tools of glam and cosplay throughout 2015.
Mya in 2015, testing glam pink-look makeup with complementary photo-framing Mya in 2015, testing bloody-cut makeup for Kaneki Ken from Tokya Ghoul Mya in 2015, doing her first-ever solo style-&-cut of a wig, for Kaneki Ken from Tokya Ghoul
Here, I decided to go for a pink look. At the time, I always edited my photos like this, making the edits and background match the makeup color or theme I was going for. All good artists have phases, right? When I began Kaneki Ken of Tokyo Ghoul, I wanted to do a bloody look. With some knowledge on how to make a cut look real, I used SFX makeup left over from my Fem Joker cosplay I realized my Kaneki wig wasn't canon (didn't look like it did in the anime). So I began to scissor the bangs, using a Kaneki photo. It's the first wig I ever cut and styled solo, and I was super proud of myself.

I don't have to be going to a convention to work with makeup. Sometimes, I just try out looks for fun, such as these stitches, illusion, & glam makeups.
Mya in 2015, testing stitrch makeup for Homicidal Liu from Jeff trhe Killer Mya in 2015, testing a humongous toothy-grin makeup Mya in 2015, testing glam cheetah-print makeup
On my birthday, I started work on Homicidal Liu, an alternate-universe version of the Liu Woods character from the 2011 CREEPYPASTA story Jeff the Killer. If you have the time, read his story ... along with all the other CreepyPastas out there. Doing some more experimentation with illusion makeup, I wanted those viewing this photo to be over-whelmed by a humongous toothy grin! (Those are definitely some crazy sharp teeth, don't you think?) Say cheese! Or say cheetah print! I'd bought a makeup kit with paint & stencils to create the pattern. Gave it a try. This is when I started to experiment with more glam stuff. I even attempted a winged eyeliner; & looking at it now, I'm so glad I've improved!

Over July 4th weekend, 2015, I returned to the Stephens Convention Center at Rosemont's Hyatt Regency O'Hare for Anime Midwest. Over 10,000 of my closest friends joined me for anime screenings, artist room, cosplay masquerade contest, date auction, dealers room, fan panels, formal dance, guest autographs, karaoke, Maid Cafe, rave dances, video game tournaments, workshops, & the ConSweet (convention suite) with free ramen noodles, rice, oatmeal, & soda. Sometimes, I again cosplayed my female Grell Sutcliff (Gureru Satokurifu) of Black Butler (Kuroshitsuji). I also debuted a new-for-me character, a female Joker of Batman et al infamy. 'Cuz you know the meme: "In a world of Harley Quinns, be a Duela Dent." Not that my Joker is either.

This time, Grell gives a little love to Sebastian Michaelis (Sebastian Mikaerisu), the Black Butler. Shhhh, don't tell my fiance Claude Faustus. After a lot of work, my colorful female Joker (acid-whie face, red lips, green hair, & all) makes her first appearance at a con! And makes friends with informant Izaya Orihara (Orihara Izaya) - aka Kanra, Chrome, & Nakura - of Durarara!!

In May of 2015, I again attended ACen (Anime Central) in the Stephens Convention Center at Rosemont's Hyatt Regency O'Hare. There were over 30,000 people there, nearly 1,500 more than the year before ... not that I could actually tell. I once again cosplayed as a female - but way more formal - Grell Sutcliff (Gureru Satokurifu), a Black Butler (Kuroshitsuji) Grim Reaper & a transwoman who's still biologically male. At least this time, my wig was styled!

Mya at ACen 2015, cosplaying as Grell Sutcliff from Black Butler, with cosplay icons Panda & Lux Mya at ACen 2015, cosplaying as Grell Sutcliff from Black Butler, proposing to Claude Faustus from Black Butler
Here I am, in full regalia, with Nagisa Hazuki (left) & Rei Ryugazaki (middle), two guys from the swimming anime series Free! The cosplayers were just so cute, especially with that funny little Nagisa doll Rei is holding. This is me mugging for the camera while meeting two of my cosplay icons: Panda (middle) & Lux (right). Don't you just love all that red, red hair. And they were so cool. This was the beginning for me of a friendship with Lux. And me making a big, honking deal of proposing to Claude Faustus (Kurodo Fosutasu), aka the demon "Spider Butler" of the Trancy household in Black Butler. Whadaya mean, did he say yes? Who could say no to me?

Hello, Nilu!
Thank you for enjoying my stories and photos!! I am glad you are able to get updated thanks to the email reminders from Grams. I can't wait to hear what you think of my future posts!

Hi, Nilu!
Cool of you to email directly to Mya here at Earthstar Works. Most people don't realize she has a mailbox on the website itself, so they pass messages through me, either here or at the personal e-address I use for the reminders.
Speaking of which, you're welcome about those announcements. Enough people mention liking them that I consider it worth the time to continue doing them. And I've found that most readers prefer them monthly rather than every time something is posted somewhere on the site. I'm not sure why that is (probably 'cuz they get scads of emails and appreciate that I don't clutter up their mailbox every day), but I'm OK with it.
Keep enjoying Mya's photos and stories here and on Mya's Page, and especially those deviled eggs.
Khoda hafez,
Lucki

In Spring of 2015, I went on a school field trip to my first ever C2E2 (Chicago Comic & Entertainment Expo), which was held at McCormick Place. There were over 70,000 people there! I cosplayed as a casual Grell Sutcliff (Gureru Satokurifu), one of the Grim Reapers from the Black Butler (Kuroshitsuji) series.

Mya at C2E2 2015, cosplaying as Grell Sutcliff from Black Butler, with a crew of Ghostbusters & a classmate dressed as a cat who's trying to purloin Mya's coffee
Here I am with a bunch of superheroes. Plus Princess Ariel from The Little Mermaid holding her fish friend Flounder (who didn't need to panic with all those superheroes around him). See the two photobombers behind us? He's Magneto (Max Eisen-hardt) from X-Men. When Grams saw this pic, she said, "Hangin' with the bad boyz, huh? That's my #grandMya." And I said, "Yep." LOL Grabbed some Starbucks with a Ghostbusters crew. Plus one of my classmates, dressed as a cat, who was pawing at my coffee. But I fended her off 'cuz, you know, need all the caffeine possible to survive the day.

My favorite set of "gotta love 'em" twins: Hikaru (elder; right) & Kaoru Hitachiin from Ouran High School Host Club. The cosplayers are not real twins, but that's OK. The cutest swimmers around, from the sports anime about swimming: Free! The character in black is Aiichiro Nitori, the one in white is Nagisa Hazuki. Another tall cosplayer: Mad scientist Franken Stein from Soul Eater, with scythe weapon & a screw through his head that he spins to reset himself 'cuz he's crazy.

I started cosplaying in 2014, & this was my first convention. It was Anime Central, in the Donald E. Stephen Convention Center in Rosemont, IL. I was cosplaying as Shizuo Heiwajima from Durarara!! I always thought I had to pose serious in this character. It felt fun to be at my first con ever. But my wig was actually a mess and, OMG, crazy. I do look back now & wish I would have styled it better. But we all start out somewhere, & to see how I cosplay now is even better. That first con opened a doorway to new friends & more fun cons!!
